Lovely sunshine from chilly Finland Kiira Korpi has always belonged to one of the most admired European Figure skaters. Now she has announced her retirement from the sport after battling with injuries for several years.
寒々したフィンランドからの愛らしいサンシャイン キーラ・コルピは、いつでもヨーロッパで愛され、称賛されるフィギュア・スケーターの1人だった。数年ケガと闘ったあと彼女は今、競技から引退することを発表した。

She started with skating at the age of 5 and nailed her first triple jump – Salchow – six years later. Always referred to as “One of the most beautiful woman in Figure Skating world”, Kiira didn’t let herself go unnoticed within the Ladies competition. She won the Finnish championships total five times in her career and since 2005 always stood at the podium (except 2007 when she finished 4th).
彼女は5歳からスケートを始め、彼女の最初のトリプル・ジャンプ－サルコーーを6年後にやってのけた。いつも「フィギュア・スケートの世界で一番美しい女性の1人」と呼ばれ、キーラは女子の競技会で注目されないことはなかった。彼女はフィンランドの選手権で、彼女のキャリア中で計5回勝ち、2005年以降は常に表彰台に立った(2007年の4位で終わった時を除く)
During the years she managed to climb to the podium at Europeans three times (twice for bronze, once for silver). Her best placement at the World championships was 9th place from 2008 and 2011. She finished 11th at her last Olympics in 2010.
彼女はヨーロッパ選手権でも、3度(銅2回、銀1回)表彰台に上った。彼女の世界選手権での最高順位は、2008年と2011年の9位。2010年の彼女にとって最後のオリンピックでは、11位で終わった。

26-years old Finnish beauty who gained a status of a celebrity in her home country was ready to strike for another medals but the injuries slowed her down in 2012. She had to skip the Worlds that year due to lingering foot and hip injury. She came back the following season, winning the Finnish championships but missed both Europeans and Worlds due to inflammation in her left Achilles tendon. 2014 wasn’t her lucky year either, she finally underwent the surgery of her Achilles tendon but had to skip the competitions because of that again.
母国でセレブリティ(著名人)の地位を獲得した26歳のフィンランド美人は、更なるメダルを打ち当てる準備をしていたが、2012年ケガが彼女を減速させた。長引く足と腰のケガの為、彼女はその年の世界選手権を欠席しなければならなかった。彼女は次のシーズン戻ってきて、フィンランド選手権に勝ったが、左のアキレス腱の炎症の為、ヨーロッパ選手権と世界選手権の両方を欠場した。2014年も彼女の幸運の年ではなく、彼女はついにアキレス腱の手術を経験したが、そのために再び競技会を欠場しなければならなかった。
2015 was supposed to be her big comeback year. Unfortunately, the odds haven’t been in her favor once again. She was at the 4th place after great short program at 2015 European championships and everyone could already see her on the podium. She was forced to withdraw before the Free skates due to illness… She finished disappointing 31st at her last World championships…
2015年は彼女の盛大なカムバックの年になるはずだった。不運なことに、勝算は再び彼女に有利にはならなかった。彼女は2015ヨーロッパ選手権で、ショート・プログラムを終わって4位で、みんなもう彼女を表彰台で見ることが出来るかもと思った。彼女はフリー・スケートの前に、病気のために棄権することを余儀なくされ… 彼女は最後の世界選手権で失意の31位で終わった。

Figure skating community was already predicting Kiira to retire for some time. Finnish skater was initially listed for the Grand Prix in France for this season but her name was removed without announcement earlier this month. Finnish media has started to spread the retirement news from the beginning of this week. Kiira officially confirmed the rumors on Thursday during official press conference.
フィギュア・スケートの世界では既にキーラがいつか引退することは予想していた。フィンランドのスケーターは今季当初、フランスでのグランプリにリストされていたが、彼女の名前は今月初めに発表されることなく削除された。フィンランドのメディアは、今週初めから引退のニュースを広め始めた。キーラは木曜日の公式な記者会見で、噂を公式に認めた。
“I have practiced in the summer and felt good but there was no more motivation. I would love to continue skating in the future just not at competitions.” she explained.
“私は夏の間練習して、感じは良かったけれど、更なるモチベーション(やる気)が起きませんでした。私は将来もスケートを続けたいと思いますが、競技会でではありません”と彼女は説明した。
